Aidin Vaziri | The high-pitched screams in the air this week herald the arrival of the British boy band One Direction. Made up of five floppy haired solo singers – Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – who came together in 2010 on the United Kingdom version of “X Factor,” the Simon Cowell-helmed group has already made history. In March, its first album, “Up All Night,” entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 1. No other British band has ever done that – not the Beatles, Coldplay, not even Right Said Fred. Not only that. The band has already booked an arena tour for next year. We checked in with Malik amid the bustle during a tour stop in Chicago.

Q: I understand Harry is not happy because his official doll looks a bit like Susan Boyle?
A: I don’t really have a comment about that, but I really like my doll.
Q: You guys are proud of being the boy band that doesn’t dance. How would you describe your moves?
A: I don’t really have much of a style. It’s just casual with some head bopping. I don’t dance very often.
Q: Is there anything you miss about your life as a civilian?
A: The only thing I really miss is my friends and family. Other than that, this is an amazing opportunity and I can’t think of anything else I would rather be doing.
