But with 1.7 million views and counting, the San Francisco outfit’s on-the-road version of the often-sampled 1981 hit “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” has served as an unusual calling card – winning fans with its improvised ingenuity and acting as a gateway for people to discover Bluhm’s own laid-back pop melodies. “You can see who comes to our shows from having seen the video on YouTube – it’s definitely a different type of person,” says the 33-year-old singer-songwriter behind the blunt bangs and mirrored aviator sunglasses. “What’s cool is they leave being Nicki Bluhm fans.” They’re not the only ones.
