Mazzy Star, ‘Seasons of Your Day’

Aidin Vaziri | Seventeen years may have passed since alt-rock band Mazzy Star last released an album, but you couldn’t tell that from listening to “Seasons of Your Day.” Time stands still as Hope Sandoval’s shadowy voice mingles with David Roback’s languid chords – many of them played on the slide guitar – on tracks such as “California” and “Flying Low.” Most of the new material, in fact, will fit seamlessly alongside the duo’s early output when it hits the road next month. Although the seven-minute-plus blues dirge that closes the set, “Lay Myself Down,” may serve as a jolt to fans who drift too deep into the album’s violet haze.
