Live Review: Kanye West at SAP Center


Aidin Vaziri | How did Kanye West top his made-for-reality-TV proposal to Kim Kardashian at AT&T Park? On Tuesday, the rapper’s Yeezus tour arrived at the SAP Center at San Jose for the first of two Bay Area dates. Forget the fireworks, 50-piece orchestra and blinding 15-carat engagement ring: This was much bigger. For starters, we saw West perform on top of an icy mountain only slightly smaller than Disneyland’s Matterhorn (complete with red-eyed yeti). We saw West roll around a second stage in a pileup of female dancers dressed in head-to-toe nude bondage suits. We saw West hold a mid-concert conversation with Jesus Christ (or at least a convincing look-alike). Actually, we barely saw West at all. For most of the thunderous two-hour performance, the rapper, 36, wore several jeweled masks that completely covered his face. One of them even turned his head into a fully functioning disco ball.
